About Visit Ras Malé

An independent guide to the Maldives' new city.

Visit Ras Malé is an independent guide. It is not connected to the Government of Maldives, the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) or any developer.

Why we exist

Ras Malé is being built on land reclaimed from Fushidhiggaru lagoon. Information about it is spread across press releases, news reports and social media. We bring it together in one place, in plain English, and keep it up to date.

How we source figures

Every hectare, percentage and date on this site links to its source: official statements first, then reputable news and industry reports. When a figure isn't published, we say so instead of estimating it.

Editorial policy

Articles may be drafted with help from AI tools. A person checks every article against its sources before it is published, and political topics present more than one side. Read our editorial policy.

Who runs Visit Ras Malé

Visit Ras Malé is run by the same small team behind four other Maldivian websites: Maldives Investments (property for sale and rent), HandyMaldives (practical guides to living and working in the Maldives), TaskMV (verified home services) and Hitraisers (websites, hosting and digital marketing).

You'll sometimes see these sites promoted in boxes marked "From our network". They are our own sites, not paid adverts, and they don't decide what we write about Ras Malé.
